Several policy initiatives over the last three decades have been striving to limit the impacts of global warming, reverse land degradation, stop the loss of biodiversity, protect finite natural resources, and reduce the risks associated with environmental disasters. Appropriate climate actions to keep the impact of climate change in check requires high levels of climate information delivered in forms which are enabling actionable knowledge.
In the definition of the WMO, a Climate Services Information System (CSIS) is the principal mechanism through which information about climate – past, present and future – is routinely produced, archived, analyzed, modelled, exchanged and processed as well as visualized. They are technical infrastructures to translate raw data into climate information and deliver this information in forms to generate actionable knowledge out of it.
The Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) has a Climate Data Store (CDS) as a technical data and processing infrastructure. The CDS can considered as a CSIS serving thousands of users with processed data, data visualization and climate information. It contains a large digital infrastructure fetching the required data into cloud systems which contains scientific data analytics methodologies.
Within the CLINT project, climate services has been enhanced by using artificial intelligence (AI) based methods for climate information production. The webinar will show the blueprint on how to translate scientific methods into climate services which has been developed within the CLINT project. It will also introduce the digital infrastructure which underpins C3S and how to enhance it from the community
side. We will show the options to generate information on demand with C3S to empower decision-making with some concrete examples.
